Kev makes his views on Lewis perfectly clear in Emmerdale – and it’s gutting

Chaotic, unpredictable, and a surprisingly good baker. Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) has returned to Emmerdale.

Unhinged criminal Kev made his grand comeback in this evening’s episode of the ITV soap, after Ross Barton (Michael Parr) got word that Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) was in trouble.

A couple of days ago, Lewis decided to join Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) on holiday in Madeira. Vinny had surprised Lewis with the trip away, but didn’t consider how the spontaneity would impact his anxiety.

Lewis chose to stay in the village but encouraged Vinny to go anyway.

Following some advice from Ross, Lewis felt a lot better about the holiday and concluded that he’d like to go after all. He left Dale View, but disaster struck when he was thrown into the back of a van, which sped away seconds later.

Last night’s instalment allowed us to learn that Lewis is being held hostage in the house of a woman called Kylie. He is in a terrible state, panicking about where he is and not eating the meals Kylie keeps providing for him.

Ross only learnt about Lewis being in trouble due to a text he received on his phone. It read ‘If you want to see Lewis again, his dad needs to return Penny. Don’t call the police, or Lewis gets it’.

Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) only got involved in this saga because he arrived at Ross’ house with a delivery from Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).

For a while, Ross was under the impression that he needed to get in contact with Lewis’ adoptive father Jeffrey.

The man was impossible to find on social media, which left Liam with the view they were probably looking for the wrong dad.

When Liam confessed that Kev is Lewis’ biological father, Ross immediately knew they needed to find him.

Locating Kev actually didn’t take Liam very long, and it was all down to some lemon drizzle cake that Claudette Anderson (Flo Wilson) had brought into the cafe. He worked out that the cake had been made by Kev, which meant Claudette knew where he was.

In a layby at the side of a road, Kev was busy working in his bakery van. His new business is called ‘A Slice of Kev-en’ which, coming from the man who held three blokes hostage with a sword last year, is actually a pretty clever move from him.

Kev wasn’t interested in what Liam had to say, but his mind changed when he shared the news that Lewis was in trouble.

Back in the village, Kev confidently told Ross and Liam that he was ready to save the day. When Ross shared the news about missing Penny, Kev confirmed that Penny isn’t a woman – it’s a diamond.

Kev claimed that he took the item and then gave it to a pawnbroker. This looked like the key to getting Lewis back, so Ross gave Kev a firm talking to and said he cannot return until he’s located the jewel.

Outside though, Kev unzipped his jacket and we saw the diamond resting on a chain around his neck. If Kev genuinley cared for Lewis, he wouldn’t have an issue with giving the diamond back to Kylie to free his son.

It’s a pretty gutting twist, as it’s basically confirmed that Kev cares more about a materialistic item than his own flesh and blood.

With Kev showing no signs of wanting to hand the diamond back, how will Lewis escape?
