Another devastating cancer diagnosis rocks the shattered Dingle family in Emmerdale

It seems that 2026 has, so far, been nothing but bad news for the Dingle family in Emmerdale.
One of the main focuses for the family this year has been Cain Dingle’s (Jeff Hordley) prostate cancer diagnosis. He received his health news back in January, and had his all-important operation in May. In the aftermath, Cain has been busy trying to adapt to the side-effects, which have included impotence and incontinence.
A couple of weeks ago, Cain and Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) went to the hospital for a progress update following the operation. Sadly, they were told that there’s a very high chance that Cain’s cancer has spread.
Ms Rhodes explained that Cain would need more treatment, but it could make his current side effects permanent.
Cain was adamant that he wasn’t going to go through with the radiotherapy, fearful that it would have a very negative impact on his marriage. Moira, and even Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), told Cain that intimacy isn’t the be all and end all to a relationship, but he struggled to see things from their perspective.
His stubbornness isn’t just affecting his marriage to Moira and friendship with Liam, though. It is also impacting Cain’s relationship with son Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn).
The youngster has been finding it tough to process his difficult thoughts and feelings. For a couple of weeks, he tried to deal with them by setting fire to things on Emmerdale Farm. Kyle was caught by Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), who tried to help the lad find a positive distraction.
He’s been doing well, but Kyle faced a setback a couple of days ago, when he discovered that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) is the reason his mum is dead.
Being unable to process this, and being angry at his dad for stopping him from seeing Graham, led to Kyle starting another fire in today’s episode.
The flames were lit in a shed outside Wishing Well. The only difference this time was that Kyle had put someone’s life in danger.
Trapped inside the shed was Monty the dog. Cain and Moira worked together to open the door and free the pup, who was then rushed to the vets.
Cain came to realise that shouting at Kyle for his actions wasn’t making the situation any better. In an interesting twist, he then headed to Home Farm to ask Graham for some help.
A few hours later, Graham arrived outside with a brand new shed. He threw some gloves in Kyle’s direction, who happily followed Graham’s orders as they began building.
Cain joined in as well, and came to understand what Graham was doing.
Unfortunately, his short temper got the better of him when Cain thought that Graham was trying to tell him how to be a dad. The poor bloke headed off all alone, clearly gutted that his afternoon had ended this way.
When Kyle saw Graham leaving, he made it clear to Cain that he was annoyed at him for ruining things once more.
It marked a difficult end to the day for Kyle, but things only got worse when Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) arrived.
He explained to the family that Monty won’t be coming home just yet, because there’s a chance he might have cancer.
