Exclusive: Hollyoaks’ Matthew Wolfenden reveals dark secret for Jonah Keane

Hollyoaks star Matthew Wolfenden has revealed that his character Jonah Keane has a huge secret that could have major consequences for his loved ones. The Keane family arrived in Hollyoaks earlier this year with Beth intending to surprise her dad Jack, but they were involved in a massive car crash that immediately changed everything.
For weeks now, Beth has been blackmailed by a face from her past, someone who she has been trying to run from, and viewers recently discovered that Beth is not the biological mum of teen Maddox.
Things are about to get even more complicated, as Beth will soon be introduced to her aunt Cindy when she returns to the village – but it will be revealed that Beth and Cindy have already had a connection off screen.
Jonah has been a rock to Beth during this difficult time, but speaking exclusively to Inside Soap, Matthew teases that their relationship could soon be tested as Jonah has a massive secret of his own…
“I’d like to think that their relationship [is unbreakable] at the moment,” he remarks. “There are a lot of secrets to come out, especially about Jonah.
“I’d like to think that they would be able to ride any storm together, but I don’t know if she knows about this big secret that’s going to come out about Jonah. He’s got a deep, dark secret, put it that way.”
Jonah has helping his son Caleb adapt to his new life after he suffered a serious spinal injury in the crash. He has also made friends quickly in the village and recently supported Leela through her grief – but this has led to Maddox mistakenly believing that they are having an affair.

But would Matthew, who is best known for playing David in Emmerdale, be friends with his new alter ego in real life?
“I would, actually,” he tells us. “That was one of the things that the casting team said about Jonah when I came in, that he was going to be liked by everybody.
“The lads like to go down the pub with him, the girls all like him and he gets on with the whole community, which is a great setup for this big dark secret…”
