The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Coronation Street dated July 13. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube.

Coronation Street’s Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) has told her partner Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) – who is a police officer – that she murdered Theo Silverton (James Cartwright).

A flashback that aired a few weeks ago confirmed what happened between Sarah and Theo before he met his end. The duo endured a showdown, which eventually saw Sarah attack the abuser with a metal pipe. Theo then fell over some scaffolding and onto the floor.

In her hour of need, Sarah didn’t call Kit – she phoned her ex, Gary Windass (Mikey North).

While battling to keep their secret hidden in the middle of a police investigation, Sarah and Gary’s suspicious behaviour eventually saw Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) accuse them of having an affair.

Sarah was never going to keep this secret forever. This is the same womanwho struggled to cope after Callum Logan’s murder in 2016, after all. She isn’t cut out for the life of keeping dark secrets and pretending that everything is normal, so it wasn’t a surprise that she blurted out her secret right when Kit started talking about their future together.

Prior to this moment, Sarah was panicking about how her lies are impacting those around her.

She was discovered by Gary, who reminded Sarah that he’s also risked his life by helping her cover up Theo’s murder.

Unfortunately, Gary’s comments weren’t enough. When Sarah returned to the flat, she discovered Kit had been busy setting up a lunch date. He then spoke about their relationship, and left Sarah absolutely stunned when he got down on one knee and proposed.

The discussion of spending the rest of their lives together pushed Sarah to tell Kit that she killed Theo. Afterwards, she explained exactly what happened during Theo’s final moments, and why she has kept it a secret.

As Kit tried to get his head around Sarah’s confession, it became apparent that her keeping the murder hidden wasn’t actually the main issue for him – it was who she called.

Kit couldn’t get over the fact that Sarah phoned Gary for help instead of him.

Picking up his keys, Kit left, leaving Sarah terrified as to what he’ll do next.

The thing about Kit is, he’s a bent copper. In the past, he’s broken the rules of his job just to get what he wants, or even save someone he loves from time behind bars.

If all of Kit’s anger is directed towards Gary, could he be about to face prison for Sarah’s crime?
