Major Hollyoaks exit ‘sealed’ as key character feared dead
The return of Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring) wasn’t the only thing getting Hollyoaks fans talking this evening after an unexpected shooting appeared to spell the end for a key character.
Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey) was working late at the garage and taking a phone call when he turned around to find an unexpected assailant pointing a gun at him.
‘What’s this?’, he asked, confused about what – or who – was before him. The realisation dawned on him as the figure prepared to pull the trigger. ‘No!’, he screamed – but it was too late.
The screen faded to black, with Hollyoaks’ signature theme absent as the credits rolled – a tradition typically served for either key episodes or big narrative developments.
Does this signify the end of Rex Gallagher?
Has someone claimed his life? And either way, just who was it who pulled the trigger? Rex, as viewers know, was a former criminal so it’s safe to assume that he’d amassed a fair few enemies over the years.
But just who disliked him enough to make an attempt on his life? And have they succeeded in doing so?
It was a development that took fans by surprise, with Alex taking to X, formerly Twitter, to write: ‘OMG Rex shot’, while Abi added: ‘rex omg that was such a random shock?!????’
Another said: ‘Ohh my Rex got shot ? He is GONE? There wasn’t even music in the end #hollyoaks’
Rex’s marriage to Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) has been on shaky ground as of late, with Ste struggling to accept Rex expressing his identity through wearing feminine clothes.
The pair attempted to sort out their differences on Wednesday, with Ste wondering if maybe they weren’t right for each other any longer.
But anger soon turned to passion, with Ste and Rex sleeping together in the aftermath.
Devastation followed, however, as an unsuspecting Rex was shot by a mysterious assailant at the garage. Is this really the end for Rex?
