We’re no closer to solving the Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) mystery in Emmerdale.

She blew into Emmerdale as Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) saviour, allowing Charity the chance to offload about her rape ordeal to an independent third party.

Only it didn’t take long to discover she wasn’t so impartial as Serena arrived in the village declaring herself a Sugden, with secrets about her cousin John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth). While most people have regarded her with suspicion – particularly Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) – there is one person who is seeing her in a different light.

Ross Barton (Michael Parr) has been swooning over Serena ever since she arrived. She of course has more taste than desperate Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) or easily flattered Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) and rebuffed him, but that’s just like catnip to a kitten. She’s now the only woman in the village Ross hasn’t fully cracked onto, and he intends to change that.

So far, she has rejected him at every opportunity, but even she hits a point when his charm wears her down. That, or she has an ulterior motive.

Serena is on a mission to find out more about what happened to Nate and John, not that anyone knows this yet, and our spidey-senses tell us this might have something to do with it.

Ross is so busy trying to crack on with Serena, he misses that there’s been an intruder at Home Farm – the place he’s literally paid to protect.

Kim is furious and demands that he works through a list of suspects, including Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) until he finds the culprit. Moira practically laughs in his face when he turns up at her door, while his accusation of Robert sends Aaron into fight mode.

Serena breaks them up and sends Ross on his way, before begging her cousin to let her stay. She explains the full John story, and while Aaron is suspicious, they decide she can remain.

While all this is going on Kim makes an important discovery – she realises what’s been stolen. Of all the treasures in Home Farm, a simple USB stick is gone. This tells Kim a lot about her thief.

Robert is injured and can’t work the farm, so Aaron offers Serena some work. This plays right into Serena’s hands and plans.

She uses this opportunity to get Ross back in close quarters, and Ross is more than happy to oblige. After all, he still needs to fulfil his goal of making her a notch on his bed post.

He’s chuffed the old Ross charm has done its magic, but is there more to it than he thinks? Does the fact he’s a two-star Head of Operations at Kim’s gaff have anything to do with it?
