EastEnders fans utterly obsessed with new character within seconds but there’s bad news
They say that first impressions count the most and that’s certainly the case with EastEnders newcomer Cleo, played by Mazz Murray, who fans are utterly obsessed with.
The character, mum of Joel Marshall (Max Murray), arrived on Albert Square this week with her abusive son, who has been released from prison following his vicious attack on stepmum Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig).
Cleo is played by theatre star Mazz Murray, who is the real-life aunt of Joel star Max, and despite not uttering a single piece of dialogue in her opening scene, viewers made it clear that they were fans.
‘Obsessed with Mazz Murray not even uttering a single word while flawlessly sliding across the screen to reveal Joel,’ said X user Ryan.
Podcast Albert Square: After Dark echoed such a sentiment, writing on the social media platform: ‘She has so far been on screen for two and a half seconds, hasn’t said a word and I already want a regular contract and possibly to have her run the Vic?’
Angel K added: ‘Obsessed with Cleo having no surname in the end credits.’
Despite the positive reception to the character, bad news beckons as Cleo will only appear in two episodes.
In upcoming scenes, she will reveal that despite a previous arrangement, her son is no longer able to live with her.
With ex Ross Marshall (Alex Walkinshaw) and Vicki back in the Square following their honeymoon, this will come as a huge shock to them both.
‘It was so wonderful to be part of these EastEnders episodes as we delve into Joel’s familial past, and my experience was made all the better working alongside my talented, gorgeous nephew Max,’ said Mazz of her time in the Square.
‘And also, my childhood school friend Alex Walkinshaw playing my ex-husband!’.
Mazz previously appeared in EastEnders in 2004, playing the role of Miranda, and again in 2017, portraying a character named Julie.
