Exclusive: Hollyoaks confirms “tumultuous” times ahead for Donny and Misbah

"They will be tested."

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks stars Harvey Virdi and Louis Emerick have revealed a rocky future for their characters Misbah Maalik and Donny Clark, in which their loyalties to their children will be tested.

It’s been a difficult year for the couple, as despite being engaged, Donny cheated on Misbah with evil Clare Devine after he was raped by gang member Griff in Liverpool. Once Donny bravely told the truth about his ordeal, he and Misbah finally got back on track.

Now, the couple are facing troubles with their children, as Donny’s daughter Vicky Grant is battling an eating disorder and his eldest Gemma Johnson is secretly the boss of a gang who are illegally trading in cryptocurrency. Meanwhile, Misbah’s son Imran Maalik recently discovered on his wedding day that his fiancée Leah Barnes had been cheating on him with Prince McQueen.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Harvey and Louis hint that there aren’t happy times ahead for the couple, despite all they’ve endured, with Louis describing the future as “tumultuous”.

“Lots of secrets come out, which means Misbah and Donny will be tested in terms of loyalties to their children and each other”, he reveals.

In terms of Donny and Misbah’s wedding, Louis and Harvey confirms that they’re still waiting on news of when it will take place, despite being engaged twice since 2024.

“We’re still waiting!” laughs Louis. “He’s proposed twice, he’s all talk!”

“Whenever we talk about their wedding, and we have no idea when it’s going to be, it gets bigger and more exotic,” Harvey chimes in. “We’ve gone from wanting it to be in a country house to going to Ibiza!”

In scenes airing next week, Donny will find out the details of Vicky’s eating disorder from Misbah and will confront his daughter due to fears for her life.

“Donny reacts like a bull in a china shop!” teases Louis. “He asks Vicky straight out over the dinner table if she’s anorexic. He wants to fix it – he has the dad guilt of not being there when she was growing up.”
