A Coronation Street collage of worried Sarah Platt, serious Gary Windass, shocked Todd Grimshaw, unimpressed Kit Green and stunned Maria Connor, all on a dark red sky background.

Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) and Gary Windass (Mikey North) are hiding something in Coronation Street: that much is the clear. But what’s unclear is just what they’re constantly whispering about.

It appears that it’s Theo Silverton’s (James Cartwright) murder that brought them together, with both forming a part of Todd Grimshaw’s (Gareth Pierce) support circle, and both acting incredibly strangely since that night while also becoming undeniably close.

Sarah’s boyfriend Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) has absolutely no suspicions about any extra-curricular activity between the two – for now – but despite his faith in Sarah, he has Gary firmly in his sights as it pertains to Theo’s killing, and he’s practically chomping at the bit to prove the builder busted the abusive monster upside his head.

If you ask Gary’s girlfriend Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon), though, Gary and Sarah are clearly having an affair. She’s dead set on it, and no amount of buoying from Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston) and Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) will change her mind.

In yesterday’s trip to the cobbles, while throwing back a few large glasses of wine in the Rovers, she told Todd what she believed to be true, leaving him deeply questioning his best friend and determined to get answers.

The whispers and secret conversations between Sarah and Gary continued today, though it’s apparent that, whatever they’re hiding, the net is rapidly closing in as more and more people are becoming suspicious of their sudden closeness.

Kit isn’t one of them, though. In fact, he’s preparing to drop to one knee and pop the question, but he has the small task of seeking the blessing of the various children they have between them.

He starts with Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon), who delights in teasing him for a little while, before enthusiastically encouraging him to go for it, while suggesting they retire to the pub to start looking for engagement rings.

As they do, though, Todd decides to confront Sarah over Maria’s theories, but no sooner have the words left his lips has Sarah absolutely collapsed into body-wracking sobs, forcing him to abandon his interrogation of her and try and comfort his best friend, instead.

While neither confirming nor denying that she’s been carrying on with Gary, Sarah does tell Todd that while she’s done stupid, even dangerous things in the past, the situation she currently finds herself in makes everything in her past pale in comparison. She’s in big trouble.

Todd, assuming that she’s talking about Gary, continues to comfort her, encouraging her to follow her heart and chase true happiness but with one caveat: she has to be honest and both Kit and Maria deserve to know the truth.

Back at Kit’s, he enjoys bonding with Harry (Joshua Leavy), helping him learn his lines for the upcoming ‘Wizard of Oz’ production that he’s a part of.

When Harry tenderly reveals that he likes having Kit around, pressing Kit as to if he’s staying, the copper confirms his intention to always be around in a very touching moment. He later also secures the blessing of his own son, Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey).

Sarah, meanwhile, isn’t quite feeling the same warmth as she seeks out Gary again, confirming that Todd is aware of ‘something’. Reaffirming her faith and trust in him, Gary implores her to shut his suspicions down, and quickly, clearly rattled by their loss of control of the situation.

As Sarah heads away, Gary makes a stop by the flower shop and collects a bouquet for Maria, hoping to fix things between them. She suggests that they need to talk, but they’re interrupted by Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall).

Gary proposes a family night at Speed Daal, but Maria can barely form a sentence, besides to reject his idea, before heading away to her bedroom, heart aching and wracked with paranoia.

We all know where this is heading: straight for the dinner party from Hell, where we’ll not only learn what’s really going on between Gary and Sarah
