Could Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) be any more of a Coronation Street hero?
The witty yet weary other half of Weatherfield icon Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) has become a legend in his own right.
He’s come a long way from the character first introduced to our screens in 2013, the deadbeat dad struggling to connect with his daughter Faye Windass (Ellie Leach).
The loveable, goofy taxi drive was given a whole new dimension to his character when he discovered that his beloved dad Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew), was an abusive misogynistic bully who had been tormenting his wife Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King), not to mention all the historic abuse he’d inflicted on Tim’s mum Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox).
Having a father like Geoff invariably shaped Tim, and made him vulnerable enough for someone to take advantage. It was revealed last year that Tim once had a relationship with an older woman named Trisha, who took his virginity when she was 20, and he was 14. While Tim was hailed as a studby his mates at the time, Sally gave him the support and encouragement he needed to realise what Trisha did and finally confront his abuser.

This made him probably the only person on the Cobbles qualified to understand what Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) has been going through.
Like Tim, the underage schoolboy was coerced and gaslit into an illicit and illegal relationship by a predatory old woman who took advantage of him, his athletics coach Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon).

The arch manipulator groomed Will right under the nose of his loving father Ben (Aaron McCusker), stepmum Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) and formidable grandmother Maggie (Pauline McLynn). Even when the truth came out, Megan had so utterly brainwashed Will that he continued to lie for her because he believed they were truly in love.. when all the while, she was planning to run off to France without him.
Fortunately, just as Will jumped in a taxi to meet Megan at the airport, Tim of all people was his driver. Tim was able reach Will by drawing upon his own experience of sexual abuse to finally make him see that what Megan did to him was not love.
Instead of forcing him, Tim put Will’s decision in his hands and asked him whether he would rather escapewith Megan and remain under her thrall, or finally report her to the police. It was thanks to Tim that Will found the strength to tell the police about Megan’s abuse, which led to the paedophile’s arrest.

Unfortunately, Will’s family have not always listened to him the way Tim did.
As Ben has grown increasingly frustrated with his son’s previous refusal to see Megan’s monstrous true colours, Eva tried to take the law into her hands to force a confession from the abuser, while Maggie straight up threatened her life.
Sadly, the Driscolls are still more divided than ever in upcoming episodes of Coronation Street, and it’s up to Tim to knock some sense into them for Will’s sake.

Will the court case looming, Ben, Eva, Maggie and Will’s mum Melanie (Cindy Humphries) argue over whether he should attend in person or via video link. Frustrated, Will slips out.
When he finds Tim, Will confiding in Tim how none of his family even bothered to ask what he’d prefer.
Tim takes Will back to the Rovers, telling Ben, Eva, Maggie and Melanie in no uncertain terms that it’s high time they listened to Will.

Will Tim win the Driscolls round?
