Hollyoaks has revealed a distressing secret of Ro Hutchinson’s, who has been struggling following the death of his mum, Diane. In heartbreaking scenes that aired in May, Diane tragically died after being diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer in March.
Diane’s children have been struggling since her death. Ro started self-harming, and his sister Dee Dee was taken to a youth recovery centre by Tony in last week’s episodes after she was caught experimenting with drugs.
In tonight’s episode, Ant and Ro were upset with Tony for putting Dee Dee in a rehab facility, and Tony wondered if he had done the right thing.

Leela stepped in to help Tony at The Dog and told him he did the right thing with Dee Dee before she spiralled too far.
She said: “You’ve absolutely done the right thing. She’s a danger to herself. A couple of times can lead to addiction. Look at our Ste. It ruins lives.”
Meanwhile, Ro found Rex in the garage and told him what he had overheard from Ste, who had been “slagging off” Rex to his dad, saying he “doesn’t like how you dress”.
After Rex told the teen to stop meddling in his relationship, Ro decided to open up to Rex about self-harming since his mum passed away.
Ro showed Rex his bandaged arm, telling him: “I’m trying to stop.”
Rex encourages him to confide in his dad, saying: “You know I can’t keep this sort of thing to myself, right?

“I know you think your dad won’t be able to handle it, but he’s the closest one to you who can help. You need to tell him.”
Ro confided in Tony, showing him his arm. “You’re hurting yourself again?” said Tony, with a tearful Ro saying: “I’m sorry.”
Tony hugged Ro and said: “I’ve got you.”
