Emmerdale boss addresses Robert and Aaron wedding – and when we can expect it

It was one of the standout moments of Corriedale – our beloved Robron sealing their love once more by getting engaged. And there it was, an Emmerdale wedding on the cards, something to really look forward to.

Disappointingly, it has scarcely been mentioned since. No giddy wedding plans, no bickering over guest lists (do you invite the mysterious cousin that everyone is suspicious of? Does the guy who swung a samurai sword at you deserve a shot at the buffet?)

But fear not, Emmerdale hasn’t forgotten about the big day. I made sure when I caught up with producer Laura Shaw that this had not been one of my many fever dreams.

Yes, she assured me, the wedding is still happening. Great news – the less so? We still have a while to wait.

Although, to be fair, my own engagement lasted nearly four years – it’s not unknown for couples to not get married the same year as a proposal!

However, with a powerful fandom at play, a wait is still a wait. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t be following their journey still as they develop towards sealing the deal.

‘I mean, it’s Robron! Of course I’m going to want a wedding at some point when the time feels right,’ Laura mused in a video chat with Metro when I visited the set for some juicy previews and gossip.

‘I think at the moment, they’ve just got Emmerdale Farm, so they’re wanting to build that. What we’re going to see over the next few weeks and coming months is Robert starting empire build a little bit, a bit more of the Sugdens back in the fold, putting their name back on the map, so I think they’re going to be concentrating on that for a little while but, you know, 2027 watch out!’

Whether than means January 2027 or December 2027 remains to be seen but good things come to those who are patient.

He says through gritted teeth and a sweating brow.

However, one of the best things of the last year has been the Sugdens been put firmly back in focus in the village.

Once almost completely depleted, the clan are back where they belong, and additions such as Serena are only adding to the power they wield.

Perhaps Laura is right when she says that the Sugdens being in their best position before the wedding of 2027 will make it all the better.

It wasn’t just Robron we chatted about either – Laura is excited to bring back Patsy Kensit as Sadie King, and why shouldn’t she be?

And this autumn, a stunt filled, twist-laden, emotion piling week of life-changing drama will rock the village.

So don’t expect a quiet time between now and 2027.

She enthused: ‘For the rest of the year, there are so many shocks, so many twists, so many turns. At the moment, we’ve just been planning Christmas and new year.

‘And everything that we’ve got coming up then as well is absolutely going to be top notch. It’s so exciting.’

As someone who has spent over two decades living and breathing the show, she definitely has my trust on that one.

It’s a great time to be an Emmerdale fan – even if you are forced to hold fire on that Robron wedding confetti.
