Jenson Cole (Ryan Clayton) has been something of an enigma since rocking up in the eponymous village and now we know why, with the latest edition of the long-running soap confirming his true identity.

There is your normal type of mysterious and then there’s Jenson, who has played his cards pretty close to his chest since pretty much his very first scene.

After lurking in the shadows for a few weeks, he revealed earlier this year that he’s the biological sibling of Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas). This was after he’d conducted a secret affair with Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe).

But despite – you know – sleeping with his brother’s own true love, Jenson was Warren’s number one fan and went out of his way to emulate his big bro, who would subsequently have him killed.

Or so he thought. It turns out that the person Warren shot wasn’t actually Jenson but rather one of Gemma Johnson’s (Tisha Merry) heavies.

Gemma, you see, is still very much in love with Warren and she has been toying with him for months over the whole crypto wallet situation, which is where Jenson came in.

Warren, meanwhile, was riddled with guilt believing that he claimed his brother’s life – so much so that he let his grudge with Jenson fade pretty quickly upon learning he was alive.

And it wasn’t just Warren that was surprised by Jenson’s comeback as Gemma – who had helped him fake his demise – was taken aback too. Still holding a torch for Warren, Gemma saw an opportunity to get what she wants, suggesting that Jenson eliminate Mercedes from the equation if he really wants revenge on Warren.

But Jenson appeared to be keen to start afresh with Waz, who finally started to acknowledge the newcomer as his brother.

Alls well that ends well? Not in this village!

In what was an unpredictable twist even by the almighty Hollyoaks’ standards, Jenson met in secret with handler Alison (Lauren Dickenson), with subsequent scenes confirming that he is an undercover cop!

Alison berated him for ‘operating off book’ and made it clear that she was bringing him in, putting a stop to whatever he was investigating.

Jenson, however, urged her to give him more time, revealing that he’ll be able to get her not only the Warren Fox but also Gemma, who has taken over Froggy Black’s (John Middleton) operation.

Alison wasn’t so sure, suggesting a debrief instead, but Jenson wasn’t having any of it as he stormed off, determined to see through his mission.

The question – or rather the first of several – is: will Jenson manage to do what so many others before him have failed to do in taking down Warren?

Was the affection he felt for his brother real and if so will he feel torn between love and duty when push comes to shove? Will duty win out?
