It had to happen. The dark side of Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) is back on Coronation Street, and none of his loved ones are safe…

Anyone following Todd Grimshaw’s story over the past year might be forgiven for getting he used to be a bit of a wron’gun.

His most ruthlessly calculated plot was driven by his obsession with winning back his ex, Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) by sabotaging his relationship in an evil scheme more unnecessarily complicated than HBO’s House Of The Dragon.

Other greatest his include cheating on his pregnant teenage sweetheart Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), with nurse Karl and gaslighting her about it to avoid coming out, ghosting his near-enough daughter  Summer Spellman  (Harriet Bibby),  by faking his death, and destroying his brother Jason’s (Ryan Thomas) happiness with Eva Price (Katherine Tyldesley) just to prove that he was the ultimate puppet master on the street.

But all that’s water under the bridge now. Or so we thought.

Last year, Todd suffered a constant campaign of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his violent partner Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), which unlocked a vulnerable side to the Weatherfield bad boy that some fans never thought possible.

Todd stayed with Theo out of a misguided hope that he would change, and pure fear. The monster was responsible for the death of Billy.

After being beaten so badly that it resulted in a trip to A&E, Todd found the strength to leave Theo and report his abuse to the police.

Sadly, Theo never was very good at hearing the word ‘no’. He broke into Todd’s flat and chased him onto the Street in a deadly nighttime showdown. The sinister scaffolder took to the roof to search for his victim, where he fell to his death on the Cobbles thanks to a mysterious attacker…

… who turned out to be Sarah.

Not Todd. Not Summer, or George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), or Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins, or Gary Windass (Mikey North), or Danielle Silverton (Natalie), or any of the six suspects that the writers spent a month heavily implying committed the crime. Sarah.

I’m not bitter at all.

Weatherfield’s girl next door had a nail-biting showdown with the raging narcissist on the rooftop, where Theo cruelly tormented her about her past relationship with Todd and the baby they had together who tragically passed away days after birth. This obviously resulted in Sarah seeing the red mist and giving Theo a one-way ticket to the Soapland graveyard.

This unfortunately led to Sarah’s eventual arrest, which led to her being lumbered with nightmare new inmate Kacey (Emma Matthews). Her new jailbird bezzie wants Sarah to use her relationship with copper Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) to help her son dodge an armed robbery charge… or else. Corrie’s going full on Orange Is The New Platt.

Todd’s return from visiting his mum Elieen (Sue Cleaver) in Thailand is set to put the cat among the pigeons. But while he’s got unfinished business with Sarah, he runs afoul of someone else… Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger.

It’s hard to imagine that Todd would ever have beef against the sister of the closest thing he’s got left to a dad, George Shuttleworth. But believe or not, Todd’s selfish behaviour is about to sabotage Glenda’s chance for romance.

In the Rovers, Glenda takes a shine to Fraser and invites him for a drink. While alone with Todd, newcomer Celeste (Frances Barber) reveals the funeral is for herself and she has only six weeks to live.

After planning a Dolly Parton-themed service, she collects Fraser, leaving Glenda thrilled when he gives her his number and agrees to a date tomorrow. When Todd reveals that he’s off to Canal Street, Christina insists on joining him.

It’s clear he’s been hitting the bottle hard his trip to Thailand and Glenda calls him out on it. Todd is livid.

So when he finds out that newcomer Fraser, who Glenda is smitten with, is gay, you can imagine how well that goes in next week’s trip to the Cobbles.

So when Celeste visits the undertakers and warns Todd that Fraser is gay, Todd takes matters into his own hands and reverts to fiendish scheming type.

Look out, Weatherfield. The old Todd Grimshaw is back.
