Gary Windass vowed to “tell the truth” about the murder of Theo Silverton at the end of Sunday’s Coronation Street

Gary Windass vowed to “tell the truth” about the murder of Theo Silverton at the end of Sunday night’s episode of Coronation Street.

The builder, who has been played by Mike North since 2008, has got himself wrapped up in the death of evil scaffolder Theo (James Cartwright) and earlier this year a flashback showed that Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) had hit him over the head with a pipe and pushing him over a scaffolding, after months of him abusing her best friend Todd Grimshaw.

Instead of involving her partner DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) in the whole sorry mess for fear of what it could do his career, she instead roped in her ex-boyfriend Gary, who hid the murder weapon, even after Sarah went to prison and was charged with murder.

Kit is already putting pressure on Gary to hand himself in and as the Manchester-based serial continued at the end of the weekend, Gary spoke to Coronation Street’s resident solicitor Adam Barlow and told him everything. He said: “What the hell were you both thinking?”

Gary explained: “Well, we weren’t, just wanted to get your view on the situation.” He replied: “Option one, you hand yourself in, play dumb about the scaffold pole and play dumb about Sarah not contacting the police. Option two, pray Kit is bluffing.”

Adam then warned Gary that if the police can prove that he concealed the murder weapon, he would be looking at up to four years in prison but it would corroborate Sarah’s claim that she committed the murder in self defence.

Later on, when Sarah was on the phone to Kit from her cell, DS Lisa Swain, who normally locks innocent people up, started buzzing around in the background and then immediately demanded to know what they were talking about. He feigned innocence but they had been discussing the fact that earlier that day, Sarah’s daughter Bethany had been visiting her telling her of Gary’s plan to confess.

In amongst all this is Gary’s wife Maria Sutherland (Samia Ghadie), desperate for her husband to think of a plan to get them out of it, especially because she initially lied to police to explain why footage had been wiped from the CCTV at the builder’s yard.

After Maria waved off a client at the salon, her phone buzzed with a text message from Gary. As she opened it, her face fell and moments later, Gary was sitting in front of DS Swain.

She asked him: “Gary, what’s this all about?” and he simply replied: “To tell the truth.” Reacting to the idea that Gary could be put behind bars, one fan wrote on X: “bloody hell! I hope Sarah doesn’t go along with Kit framing Gary for Theo’s murder!”

Another said: “Gary Windass is a brilliant character thanks to Mikey North, and a third raged: “Kit is a prick, how dare he do that to Gary , blackmailing bent copper! #Corrie Gary should take him down with him if Kit is gonna play that game!”
