There’s an emotional reunion for EastEnders’ Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) next week as he returns to Walford amid her cancer battle.

Back in May, Patrick left the Square to spend some time with his grandchildren up in Scotland after he received a call from ex-daughter-in-law Sophie, who said that the kids weren’t coping well in the wake of their dad Anthony Trueman’s (Nicholas Bailey) death.

Patrick’s departure came before Denise had opened up about being diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukaemia.

During the two months her close father-figure has been away, she has been through a hellish ordeal, spending four weeks in isolation on a cancer ward as she underwent intensive chemotherapy.

After a break in treatment, Denise revealed to her loved ones that the first round had not worked as well as her doctors had hoped, while she has also been dealing with the loss of a fellow blood cancer patient she’d grown close to.

Meanwhile, emotions have also been running high between Denise and Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams), as she is furious with her daughter for allowing the grandmother of her murderous ex Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) into her son Jordan’s (Jahsaiah Williams) life.

When Patrick finally makes his way home next week, he and Denise are overcome with emotion to see each other again, especially given the circumstances.

However, he immediately picks up on the bad vibes between her and Chelsea and sets about smoothing things over between them.

Unfortunately, though, it looks like Denise was right to be wary of Gray’s gran Shelia Atkins (Sheila Ruskins).

She’s been in secret cahoots with the serial killer since arriving in Walford a few weeks ago, and next week, Gray puts a sinister plan into action from behind bars, which could place many people in danger…
