Emmerdale’s Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) might have been kidnapped and held to ransom by his biological dad’s ex, but he’s ready to forgive and forget.

Some might say a mad decision, but Lewis is not one to be told. He’s also too good-natured, which is why he’s acquired his own rottweiler Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) along the way.

She would kill for Lewis, and Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) seems to be on her hitlist.

For once she has a point – Kev did get his biological son kidnapped over a diamond made from a dead cat’s ashes. Not the greatest of starts to a new father son relationship.

Claudette Anderson (Flo Wilson) was pretty much the only one who welcomed back Kev with open arms.

Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) was a little bit pleased as it meant he could get his divorce. But Ross Barton (Michael Parr) in particular was not amused at Kev’s unsolicited arrival being that it was due to Lewis’ aforementioned kidnapping.

Lewis was held captive by Kev’s ex Kylie – a bigger surprise than Kev’s desire to be the next Paul Hollywood – and nearly traumatised by the whole ordeal, especially when Kylie tortured him by serving chicken dinosaurs and potato smiley faces.

Ultimately, he was saved when Ross knocked Kev out sparko and traded him for his little brother. This was eventually how Lewis came to learn the identity of his biological dad.

Kev decided he wanted to try being a dad and went to the drastic measure of changing his name to shake off his dodgy past and align himself with his offspring.

Initially, Lewis wanted nothing to do with him, and after spending one entire day trying to win his son over, Kev gave up. But Claudette clipped him around the ear and confiscated his cheese toasties for his pathetic attempt at parenting and it nudged him into action.

Lewis’ heart is purer than Claudette’s whites on wash day as he gives Kev a second chance. But that’s not the only or even biggest regrettable decision he’s set to make.

In fairness, it would have to be a cold heart to turn down that heart-wrenching rendition of Father and Son. Ross has that cold heart – he wants Kev gone. Nicola, meanwhile, is feeling guilty and worrying for Lewis.

No need to worry about Lewis – he can hold his own. He tells her he’s made a huge decision and recruited his dad to work in the café.

Everyone, including Nicola, is shocked and appalled by his decision, and it’s not long before Lewis starts to think he’s made a mistake too. Will he live to regret it?
