Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday’s (5 August) episode, which is streaming on Channel 4 but hasn’t yet aired on E4.
Hollyoaks has revealed a secret alliance amid the Rex Gallagher murder plot. Following the events of last night’s episode, in which Cindy Cunningham was unexpectedly arrested amid the events, tonight sees viewers learn that she was actually set up.
The shocking twist came after Ste started to look at James differently after he appeared to express no remorse for Rex’s demise at his grave, and that he was standing in the way of his ultimate goal.

In tonight’s episode, which is available to stream now but hasn’t aired yet on E4, Cindy is interviewed by Dodger Savage at the station, as she calls the accusations an “absolute joke”. Dodger says Martin claims she paid him to murder Rex, which she strongly denies.
Meanwhile, Ste finally snaps at James and pushes him on whether he had anything to do with Rex’s death, James admitting he didn’t but might know who did.
He then confesses that he used to work alongside Martin, whose daughter was trafficked by the gang Rex was involved in, and provided Martin with the information. Shocked, Ste decides to call the police after learning Cindy is in custody, levelling the accusation that James was behind it all.
Speaking to Leela later on, Ste reflects on his regrets over Rex, admitting he wishes he could say sorry before breaking down in her arms.

Martin also reflects on his guilt to Dodger, before admitting that he set Cindy up, telling the officer: “I was even about to ruin an innocent woman’s life – Cindy Cunningham. But I can’t go through with it.”
He admits he “lied” and “wanted to shift some of the blame”, though Dodger reckons he’s not telling the whole story as Martin claims he was the only one involved in Rex’s death.
Cindy is later released and cleared of suspicion, though the circumstances around her arrest become clearer later when Beth Keane secretly meets with James.
It is then revealed that Beth set Cindy up with his help, panicking that an angered Cindy is now determined to find out who was behind her trip to the station. However, James backs away from their alliance and leaves Beth in panic.
