Bonnie Tyler’s Hollyoaks cameo explored after singer’s heartbreaking death

Power ballad legend Bonnie Tyler had an iconic soap cameo featuring one of her biggest hits.
Holding Out for a Hero star Bonnie Tyler has died at the age of 75, following an illness she was being treated for at a hospital in Portugal.
Her tragic death has sparked fans to find out more about her career highlights, such as becoming the the first Welsh person to score a number one hit in the US.
Known and loved for her string of hits during the 80s, the Welsh singer did take on a rare TV appearance in a spin-off to the popular soap, Hollyoaks.
She was not known for her TV appearances, with her only other TV cameo being on Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief in 2017.

The singer appeared in a 2009 episode of the soap spin-off, which was known for being raunchier and edgier than the flagship series.
She had initially been asked to appear in the second series for a cameo acting role, which she initially rejected, before being persuaded to appear when offered a singing role.
At the time, she said she was nervous about watching herself on the small screen, telling PA at the time: “They’ve asked me for a couple of years but I know I’m no actress.
“I’m comfortable singing in front of thousands of people but put me in a room where I have to act and it’s so difficult for me.
“I’m like a fish out of water having to say any lines, which I did have to say. I was dying. But it worked out all right.”
She added: “I hope I don’t cringe all the way through it. I probably will. When I watch any of my videos I could die!”
She appeared in a dream sequence with Carmel McQueen (Gemma Merna) in which the pair broke out into a duet of her iconic Holding Out For A Hero.
The episode aired on October 2, 2009, and actress Merna said appearing with the star was one of her biggest career highlights to date.
She told Digital Spy at the time: “It was just amazing. It was just a bit surreal. Obviously everyone was just like, ‘Oh my God, Bonnie Tyler’s here!’ And we were behaving ourselves while she was there!”
“It was the best day that I’ve had at Hollyoaks.”
