Exclusive: Hollyoaks star speaks out as Prince plots a shock death

Hollyoaks star Malique Thompson-Dwyer has spoken about the soap’s bombshell twist for his character Prince McQueen and bad boy Warren Fox.

The Channel 4 show left fans stunned this week by revealing that Prince has been secretly plotting Warren’s murder for the past two years.

In a special double episode which explored secrets being kept by the village’s younger characters, Prince recorded a video message and confessed his desire for revenge against Warren.

Prince still bitterly blames Warren for causing the death of his twin brother Hunter with a dodgy supply of drugs, but he’s been biding his time before making his move.

In an exclusive new chat, Malique has praised the soap’s bosses for revisiting a more ruthless side to Prince.

“I think it’s a really good twist because it stretches Prince’s character,” Malique tells us. “For a long time he’s been happy-go-lucky, so it’s good for his character development and to see him do these gritty, emotional things.

“I’ve been wanting Prince to get his hands dirty for a long time – not to be a villain or hated, but it’s fun to do. Happy stuff is good too, but stories like this challenge you.

“The producers pulled me in a while ago to explain the future for Prince. To be honest, I’d completely forgotten that Warren was the reason Hunter died. When they brought it up, I was like: ‘Oh yeah, this could be some juicy stuff!’ So I’ve known about it for a bit and I’m happy it’s finally being showcased on screen.”

He adds: “It was a shock to find out this was going to happen, but it was probably always going to be on Prince’s mind.

“It makes sense, because Warren is the reason his brother’s dead, so we can understand why he’s going through this.”

Prince’s confession came after Leah Barnes encouraged her friends to film their darkest secrets, promising that the videos would remain encrypted and go no further. However, Leah duped her pals by watching the footage as soon as she could.

“It was a difficult one,” explains Malique, reflecting on how the episode was filmed. “In order to get it right we had to film it in a certain order, one after the other.

“It was something different, because it was a blacked out room. Walking in there, it felt just how you’d feel in that situation in real life. That played a part in the performances.

“There were a lot of lines to learn! I think it was a challenging thing for everyone, even the director Kerri McLean but she did an amazing job. It was really well put together.”
