Exclusive: Hollyoaks lines up groundbreaking story for Coronation Street’s Brooke Vincent

Hollyoaks bosses are planning a groundbreaking new storyline for former Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

Brooke has just joined the Channel 4 soap’s cast in the role of Abigail Matthews, who was introduced as Dee Dee Hutchinson’s drugs counsellor last week.

Abigail has now been tipped as one to watch – and it may not be for the right reasons, as she’ll become a troublesome presence in the village and the local high school after being hired by Nancy Osborne.

Jessica Fox, who plays Nancy, exclusively told Digital Spy: “Nancy loves to hire somebody with no check on their background or qualifications! Somehow she’s like: ‘Well, John Paul left, you’ll do!’

“So she gets Abigail involved. You know what Nancy’s like – she thinks [Abigail is] fabulous! She couldn’t spot a troublemaker if she tried.”

The scenes that follow for Dee Dee mark new territory for the Channel 4 soap, although the firm details are being kept under wraps for now.

Jessica added: “I don’t think I can say much about the Abigail storyline yet. As I said, Nancy will probably be the last one to notice what’s going on.

“But we’re definitely doing a story that I don’t think any other soap has done before. We’re challenging Dee Dee in ways that I didn’t see coming – she’s such a cracking little actress and I’m excited to see what she does.”

Brooke signed up for Hollyoaks in April, seven years after her last appearance in Coronation Street as Sophie Webster.

Writing on Instagram at the time, she commented: “So excited to be joining the cast of Hollyoaks for such a powerful storyline! I am so grateful for this opportunity to be back on screen playing a brand new character plus my family will be happy I’m back in a full time job haha.”

Brooke has confirmed that she’ll be sticking around on the show for at least a year.

In a spoiler released alongside Hollyoaks‘ summer trailer yesterday, the show teased: “Drugs counsellor Abigail is a new teacher at Hollyoaks High, with seemingly no connection to Hollyoaks village.

“She’s a new flatmate to Cindy and comfort to new friend Cleo. Instantly popular and looked up to by Dee Dee, Abigail is quickly at the centre of village life. So why is she smashing up a bathroom in a violent rage?”
