Hollyoaks’s Cindy makes emotional confession about major missing character
"It wasn't my fault."

Hollyoaks has aired another twist in Cindy Cunningham’s return story. In Wednesday’s (22 July) episode, it was revealed that blackmailing her niece Beth Keane wasn’t the only reason Cindy came back to the village.
At the start of the episode, Darren Osborne quizzed Cindy on why she returned, feeling that there must be more to it than just a pocket watch.

Cindy wouldn’t explain, but she did state that after the whole Blue ordeal (her husband Dave Williams turned out to be a notorious gangster/killer), she fled to Malaga – then moved to America when close friend Mandy Richardson asked her to.
Unbeknown to most of the villagers, Maddox Keane is actually Cindy’s biological son. Cindy and Beth had a surrogacy agreement, but Beth backed out of it when she ran away from Switzerland. Knowing how desperate Beth is to keep the secret that she essentially kidnapped Maddox, Cindy resorted to blackmailing her.
Near the end of the episode, Jonah gave Cindy more pay-off money after selling his late wife Debbie’s wedding ring. Cindy told Jonah and Beth how she believes her bipolar disorder started because of the trauma of her son being taken away from her.
Jonah didn’t want to hear it, telling her that Beth has also been through horrible traumas and that she should take the money and leave.
Afterwards, Cindy went to the park café to buy a drink from Maddox but didn’t reveal who she was.

She handed Jonah back the wedding ring and told him, “I might not be able to forgive Beth but one teenager at home is enough”. Moved by her words, he called Beth and Maddox over and introduced her as “great auntie Cindy”.
The moment of healing for Cindy didn’t last long, as Darren approached her and told her he had just been on the phone to Mandy, who had told him what happened to Cindy’s son Hilton.
“It wasn’t my fault, and I didn’t mean for it to happen,” Cindy sobbed. “I’ve lost my little boy.”
Is he dead? He has been kidnapped? Whatever happened, it looks like Cindy’s still got some secrets left to reveal.
