Hollyoaks star reveals how long Jonah will stay in the show
"They are using us a lot, which is brilliant."
Former Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has revealed how long his new Hollyoaks character Jonah Keane will be on the soap for. The actor swapped the Dales for Cheshire earlier this year, with Jonah arriving alongside wife Beth, son Caleb and adopted son Maddox.
Jonah been nursing Caleb back to health after he suffered a spinal injury in a car crash, and has quickly made friends around the village. He supported Leela Lomax through her grief, though this has led Maddox to mistakenly believe that he is having an affair.
With his character already being deeply rooted in the village, Wolfenden told the Liverpool Echo that he has “loved every second” of filming the Channel 4 series, and expressed hope that he could remain in the role for the foreseeable future.

“When they bring a new family in [The Keanes], they will use that family a lot. They are using us a lot, which is brilliant,” said the actor. “It’s been fantastic. I fell in love with Liverpool when I was in St Helens on the doorstep.”
“I was working there for a good couple of months. To then get the opportunity to come back and work here for another year at least, hopefully more, has been fantastic,” added the star.
Opening up on the dramatic summer that his character will experience, Wolfenden continued: “Jonah came in as a family man. The best husband. The best dad to the kids. He seems like such a great guy.”
“Obviously, that’s not going to last. We’re going to see that chink in the armour. He’s not quite as shiny as one would believe on the surface,” teased the star.

Wolfenden, who previously played David Metcalfe on ITV’s Emmerdale, also spoke about the surprise comeback of Stephanie Waring’s Cindy Cunningham, who has a connection to Jonah’s on-screen wife Beth.
“I’ve known Steph Waring for 15 years. We didn’t know her character was coming back,” he shared. “They’d kept it secret from us. We were reading all this stuff, saying, ‘who’s the mum?’ All of a sudden Steph turns up.”
