Coronation Street star ‘heartbroken’ after devastating loss: ‘Saddest day of my life’

Beloved Coronation Street actor Tony Maudsley revealed online that he is currently grieving the loss of a beloved family member.

The actor, who plays Weatherfield’s favourite undertaker George Shuttleworth, shared a heartbreaking update regarding his gorgeous little dog Bosie, who sadly passed away a few weeks ago.

Bosie, a Bichon Frise, was a regular feature on Tony’s social media accounts, where friends and fans alike loved getting updates on the Corrie actor’s latest adventures with his four-legged friend.

In May, the soap star shared a post to mark his pet’s 13th birthday.

However,Tony has now sadly confirmed that Bosie has died. In a moving tribute, Tony announced his pet’s passing on Instagram, where he unveiled a touching and permanent way to commemorate his best friend – a tattoo.

‘Had to say goodbye to my Bosie a few weeks ago.’ Tony wrote. ‘Been a bit too heartbroken to share till now.

‘He’s always featured very heavily on my Insta posts as you know. Saddest day of my life and I’ll miss him terribly.’

‘But now thanks to the brilliantly talented brother of my telly sister Jodie, Marko Prenger at @handofhopetattoo, Bosie will now walk with me everywhere, sitting just above my ankle, forever.

‘Thank you Marko. This made me feel better more than you know.’

Tony’s tattoo artist, Marko, is the brother of Jodie Prenger, who plays Tony’s onscreen sister Glenda Shuttleworth, who replied: ‘So happy to get to do this for you mate, he’ll be with you forever and thank you for the kind words’

Other Coronation Street stars took to the comments to share their love and support as Tony navigates the painful loss.

Sally Carman-Duttine, who portrays Abi Webster on the cobbles, said: ‘Sending all of the love in the world bud, while Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Connor, said: ‘So sorry Tony. Sending you all the love.’

‘Sending the biggest hug! the tattoo is beautiful’ wrote Sydney Martin, who plays Betsy Swain, while he on-screen mum, Vicky Myers, who portrays Lisa Connor-Swain, wrote ‘Oh Tony, I’m so sorry’, while Paddy Bever, the former Paddy Bever added: ‘Sending big hugs’

Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd Grimshaw, added a string of heart-emojis, while the post was also liked by Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany Platt, Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Eva Price, and Daniel Brocklebank who formerly played Billy Mayhew.

Fans also rushed to share their condolences, with @lynda57smith writing: ‘So sorry @tonymaudsley1 – I feel your pain. I lost my 14 and a half year old Bichon in March and to say I am [heart broken] is an understatement. I followed Bosie through your posts as they underwent dental treatment at the same time’

@autotails_on_tour added: ‘Aww it’s the hardest goodbye, yet we get to give them the last and most precious gift of eternal peace for all the love they’ve given us in their short existence, what a fabulous tattoo’

@lorrainet56 said: ‘The heart break of losing a beloved pet is immeasurable. This is a beautiful tribute to Bodie. We lost Lacey, one of our two cats a few weeks back from a massive heart attack. She was only 7, not only do we miss her but her sister Cagney and Dottie our wee dog seem to be lost without her. Sending all our love’
