Emmerdale’s DS Ramsden has more than one secret – and it’s all about to unravel
EXCLUSIVE Emmerdale boss Laura Shaw has told the Mirror that there's more than one thing DS Thea Ramsden is hiding which will soon be exposed amid her link to Serena Sugden
DS Ramsden appears to be hiding something more than just her reasons for targeting the Tates on Emmerdale.
According to the show’s producer Laura Shaw, Thea has “a few secrets” and they are about to unravel. Laura, speaking exclusively to the Mirror, also teased the detective’s “important” relationship with secret pal Serena Sugden.
Teasing that we’d be seeing more from the pair coming up, Laura hinted Ramsden is hiding plenty from the village, amid theories about her identity. Laura told us: “Serena and Thea is going to be a really important relationship going forward.
“How those two interact… and what we will kind of see is that maybe DS Ramsden has got a few secrets of her own that will start to unravel I don’t think I can say much more than that!”
Laura was close to spilling some big gossip but manage to stop herself, as much as she’d have loved to reveal more. So whatever she was about to say likely would have dropped a massive hint about what it is that Ramsden is up to.
Laura’s rather coy teaser does confirm something though. The link between Serena and Thea is “important” and is going to develop with the show, so we need to keep our eyes on them.
Not only that, but amid revelations onscreen, we now know that there’s more than one secret waiting to be exposed where Ramsden is concerned. We already know she’s targeting Kim Tate and her family for a mystery reason, but what else could she be harbouring?
It comes after fans shared the theory that Thea is actually former character Jean Tate, following scenes confirming Thea wanted dirt on the family to “finally take Kim down”. The daughter of Zoe Tate, Kim’s former stepdaughter, was on the show as a small child. Is Thea actually Jean, trying to reclaim Home Farm?
The fact that Thea mentioned “finally” taking Kim down, could she be doing this on behalf of her ‘mother’, Zoe? Could this also be why Thea looked so angrily at Joe, could she be his cousin?
One fan wrote: “So DS Ramsden is Jean Tate, no? Wanting revenge on Kim on behalf of her mum, Zoe?” Another agreed: “I’m positive she’s Jean Tate,” as a third fan said: “I think it’s going to turn out to be Zoe’s daughter.”
A fourth viewer theorised: “I was thinking could she be Jean using a different name but surely he’d recognise her?” A further post read: “Is DS Ramsden Jean Tate? She wants revenge on Kim, immediately defended Joe and used his first name and their whole interaction was odd, felt pointed.
“Jean and Joe were raised together by Zoe for a time but as children, is it possible Joe does not quite recognise her?” A final comment read: “I’m thinking she’s Jean Tate. Would be ironic that both Tate cousins turned up in the village after years away under a pseudonym.”
