Coronation Street confirms Jodie gun twist – and lives are on the line

This article contains spoilers for tonight’s (Tuesday, June 16) Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on YouTube and ITVX.

Yesterday’s episode left us hanging when it came to the Websters. Locked in the garage by Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) as a sweating Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) paced, Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) challenged Kevin (Michael Le Vell) to use the gun he’d gotten from Fiona Morley (Sara Poyzer) and put him out of his misery.

Originally believing they were brothers before the revelation that Carl is, in fact, Debbie Webster’s (Sue Devaney) son, Kevin and Carl’s once fractious relationship has been all but destroyed.

Despite Carl’s pleas that he wants to turn his life around and become a good man, we’re more than forgiving of Kevin’s disbelief, having had his life torn apart by his then-brother’s cruel and calculating behaviour.

Much of last year’s Webster drama was centred around the illicit affair between Carl and Kevin’s wife, Abi Webster (Sally Carman). While seducing her, he also continued working for the sinister Fiona, using Kevin’s garage as a means to supply dodgy MOTs, while putting teen tearaways Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) and Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) to work stealing cars.

With seemingly no end to his bad behaviour, he ran down Tyrone, leaving him temporarily paralysed, before starting an additional affair with James Bailey (Jason Callender).

When Kevin discovered the truth about Abi and Carl, she attempted to turn their affair into a fully fledged relationship, but Carl was completely uninterested once the sizzle of being a dirty secret had gone and soon, Abi was also on his list of ever-growing enemies.

After his drunk driving caused the Corriedale pile up, he seemingly allowed Debbie to believe she’d been behind the wheel, unaware that Debbie knew the truth and was protecting him.

Even after discovering that she was his mum and despite her ever-intensifying dementia symptoms, he let her go to prison for the crime, attempting to scam more money out of her while she was in there.

Though she was eventually released, Carl continued to torment her until she could take no more and banished him from her life with an envelope full of cash. When Kevin stole it, he attempted to sabotage his brakes in revenge.

Enter Tyrone.

On the night of Theo Silverton’s (James Cartwright) murder, when the motley crew of street scumbags were facing the music for their actions, Tyrone accidentally knocked the jack holding the car up, essentially dropping the car on Carl before running into Ronnie who dumped Carl at the hospital.

Since, Carl has been determined to start mending the many things he’s broken, his relationship with his mum being the first.

Struggling for cash, though, he picked up the gun for a final payday from Fiona, and when Kevin began waving it around, he discovered, to his surprise, that it was very real.

Later, Kevin and Carl decided to finally end their feud, with Carl swearing that he wanted to be a better man. Kevin asked for the reason behind Carl’s torture of him, needing it to move on, and Carl answered truthfully: he did it because he could, out of spite and jealousy.

With peace seemingly finally restored among the Websters, Carl attempted to drop off the gun, blocking Fiona when he’d done so. The only problem? He’d been tailed.

Psychotic and deeply disturbed, Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown), giggled with glee when she discovered the gun and immediately took it home.

Fiona sought out Carl at the Chariot Square, where both Debbie and Ronnie learned that the gun was missing and they were all in danger should it not be returned.

So that’s Carl, Debbie and Ronnie on Fiona’s hitlist, and her past behaviour gives us no reason to doubt that she’s capable of some truly heinous things. But who else is in big trouble?

Jodie has long desired to cause the destruction of sister Shona (Julia Goulding) and her husband David Platt (Jack P Shepherd).
